Ujjain: Incessant monsoon rains drenched the city and the surrounding regions on Monday.Heavy rains hit the citysince early hours. Routine life was disturbed due to the rains. School going children faced problems as the roads were flooded with water in many areas of the city.
Some vegetable vendors also faced also problems as the vegetable market located in Doulatganj was water logged in early morning. However, these rains are expected to greatly benefit farmers as far as their crops are concerned. City dwellers of lower areas like Atlas square, Naisadak, Topkhana, Kaliyadeh Gate, Indoregate, Gadapuliya, Begumbag, Nayapura, Abdalpura and other parts were confronted with water logging problem.
Vehicles in many parts of the city brokedown due to water seepage into the vehicles. During heavy rainonce again muddy and dirty water of all the main drainages wascontaminated the waters of the Kshipra.
Water level of Gambhir dam rises
Continuous rains inĀ in the city and surrounding areas increased the water level of life line of the city Gambhir Dam. Talking to Free Press, dam incharge informed that the water level of the dam was 1087.10 McFt which increased to 1234.738 McFt due to the rains. The total capacity of the dam for water storage is 2250 McFt. 21.5 inch rain recorded as compared to average of 35.0 inch
According to weatherman of Government Jiwajirao Observatory during last 24 hours 90.6 millimeters of rain was recorded and the total figure of rain in the area reached 21.5 inches, whereas average rain of the city is 35.0 inches. in Ujjain tehsil recorded 50mm, Khachrod 82 mm, Nagada 41 mm and in Barnagar 22mm.
