Alphabet reveals Google’s main revenue generator in Q2 2018

Google’s parent company Alphabet has released its second-quarter earnings report wherein it has revealed what drives the major revenue of the search giant. Unsurprisingly it’s the revenue that comes from mobile search. The release says that in the particular quarter, Alphabet’s total revenue reached $32.7 billion, which also happens to be a surge of 26% as compared the revenue figures showed last year for the same quarter.

Some other statistics show that Google earned $28.1 billion from advertising revenue, while it paid around $6.4 billion for traffic acquisition costs. Also mentioned is that paid click on Google ads went up by 58% and cost per click came down to 22% as compared to what was there in 2017. In addition impressions on Google Network properties were up by a percent while cost per impression on the same increased by 14%.

The consolidated financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2018 showed total revenues earned worth $32,657 million as compared to $26,010 million in the quarter ended June 30, 2017. On the other hand, the number of employees also increased from 75,606 to 89,058.

"We delivered another quarter of very strong performance, with revenues of $32.7 billion, up 26% versus the second quarter of 2017 and 23% on a constant currency basis. Our investments are driving great experiences for users, strong results for advertisers, and new business opportunities for Google and Alphabet," said Ruth Porat, CFO of Alphabet and Google.

On a related note, according to Gartner Android took control of the smartphone market with a massive share of 85.9% last year. Apple’s iOS was on around 14%. Also mentioned was that around 1.3 billion Android smartphones were sold last year as compared to 1.5 million iOS-powered handsets.

Back in November 2017, Google India posted a turnover of Rs 7,208.9 crore ($1.11 billion at current exchange rate) in the year through March 2017.
