English cricket club bundled out for 18, run-chase completed in 12 minutes

Modern cricket, especially in the limited overs versions of the game, relies largely on hard-hitting batsmen using their power to bludgeon the ball around the ground and post massive totals in the process.

This often reducing the bowlers to hapless spectators, hands on their waist (and sometimes head) as they crane their necks in an attempt to track the ball as it flies all over the park.

However, that doesn’t mean the sport is yet immune to low-scoring games as was evidenced in the recent batting collapse of an English club cricket side in a match that only lasted a little over an hour.

Beckenham CC, a club cricket side in the Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League, were dismissed for their lowest total in the 152 years. Their grand total of 18 was also the lowest in the league’s history.

During a game between Bexley CC and Beckenham CC, the batsmen of the visiting side lasted a mere 49 minutes after winning the toss and electing to bat in the first innings.

Bexley CC took all but 12 minutes to chase down the target, losing not a single batsman in the progress.

A fiery spell from two bowlers - Calum MacLeod and Jason Benn - was the main reason for the batting collapse. MacLeod finished with figures of 6/5 runs while Benn picked up the other four wickets.
