On July 24, 1973, the American Division captured the Area Two (Fall River) Little League baseball championship, but eventually fell to Somerset Pierce (Area One winner). American claimed the Area Two title by defeating Federal before falling 16-6 to Somerset Pierce.  The members of the American team were (front row, from left): Mike Shea, Joe Shaker, Russ Raymond, Jeff Medeiros, Steve Ogden, Jim Donnelly, Paul DeCoste. Also on this day 45 years ago, Gerry LaFlamme, a 15-year-old representing the PAL of Fall River, was crowned 125-pound Junior Olympic regional champion in the Northeast Regional Boxing Championships in Trenton, N.J.

Coached by Libby Medeiros, LaFlamme drew a bye in the morning session before defeating Ron Shoesmith and Daryl Schuber by TKO.

On July 24, 1964, Bob Zukowski and Ron Vasconcellos teamed up to win the Playground Senior Doubles Horeshoe Tournament title at Pulaski Park.

On July 24, 1975, Lisa Tessier pitched the Somerset Pierce Division Girls Little Softball League all-stars into the finals of the state championship after one-hitting the Worcester Ty Cobb League all-stars 6-0.

Debbie Furtado and Kerri Diogenes both finished with two singles and a double in the victory.
