BHAWANIPATNA:  Restoration works in rain-ravaged Kalahandi district were started on Monday after flood water receded from many areas. District administration sources said focus is being laid on restoring vehicular communication on the roads that were washed away or damaged in the rain.The road from Junagarh to Kalampur block was damaged at several places by river Hati while link to Kalampur has been snapped from Junagarh and Bhawanipatna. Similarly, road communication has been hit in Thuamul Rampur, M Rampur, Narla and Jaipatna blocks of the district. 

According to a tentative damage assessment done by district administration, the heavy rain affected 258 villages in 12 blocks, one NAC and one municipality. As many as 646 houses  collapsed in rural pockets and 12 houses in urban areas of the district. As far as Government  infrastructure is concerned, 14 minor bridges of Public Works Department, 130 roads and  culverts have been damaged. As many as 660 people were shifted to safer places. Collector Anjan Kumar Manik has asked field officials of the Revenue Department to  complete damage assessment at the earliest.
