GREATER NOIDA: A 27-year-old woman allegedly tried to commit suicide on Monday by consuming overdose of pills in the collectorate office in
Surajpur.
Sources said the woman, Pramoda, was frustrated as her house was seized by police over a land dispute with a local builder and she along with her five family members were thrown out on the road.
The woman went to meet the
district magistrate seeking help on the land dispute. “On Monday, around 11am the woman took an overdose of some pills. She was immediately rushed to Kailash Hospital.” She was later shifted to Yatharth Hospital, where she is recovering.
Rohit (23), brother of Pramoda, said the family owns a piece of land in Hazipur area near Sector 104. “A few years ago, a builder who owned a plot adjacent to our house tried to convince us to sell the plot to him, but we refused. Later, he claimed to have bought that land and produced illegal papers,” he said.
“The matter is subjudice in the high court and the court has stayed the possession of land till the decision. Despite that on July 1, our family was thrown out of the house and our property was seized. Since then, my sister has been regularly visiting the collectorate seeking help of the officials because we do not have any other place to live,” Rohit added.
The woman also left a note in which she had written that she is frustrated because her family was living on that land since 1971 and some people are trying to grab the land.
District magistrate B N Singh said the suicide attempt was unfortunate but the action was taken according to the High court order. “SDM has visited the hospital and has ensured her wellness. I have also set up a committee to look into this matter,” he said.
