Flood alert issued to people living on banks of Cauvery, Kollidam rivers in TN

TRICHY: A high flood alert has been issued to people living on the banks of the Cauvery and Kollidam rivers across the delta districts in Tamil Nadu, following the heavy discharge of water from the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur. Officials said 78,270 cusecs of water being released from Mettur dam would reach here tonight.
Tamil Nadu revenue minister R B Udhayakumar has appealed to people living on the banks of the Cauvery and the Kollidam and in low-lying areas to move to safe places.

Revenue officials identified Sriramasamudhram near Thottiam, Parisalthurai, Mannachanallur, Gunaseelam, Srirangam, Thirupparaithurai, Musiri, Karur Road, Amma Mandapam, Oyamari bathing ghat, Kilikoodu, Payanayapuram, Panayakuruchi, Ottakudi and Poosathurai as flood-prone places.

People living in these areas are advised to be more vigilant. They are asked not to venture into the rivers .

Trichy district collector K Rajamani has instructed all the schools in the district to create awareness about the danger involved in while taking bath in the Cauvery and in Kollidam the rivers.

The district administration has temporarily closed tourists spots like Mukkombu (Upper Anaicut).
