About Samuthirakani’s role in the film, the director says, “Kani sir plays the role of a village-based physical trainer who strongly believes that good deeds should be cultivated in children at a very young age. He trains the youngsters in the village to compete against corporate teams in a sports competition involving our traditional games like Ghilli Thaandu. The audience will get to see a new shade of him in this film.”

Pettikadai, Issaki says, is a village’s battle against the corporates that try to eradicate the small shops there. “The major difference between these small shops and the corporate supermarkets is the former sells the products which are our necessities, but the later tricks and forces us to buy needless products, which are often toxic. Pettikadai talks in depth about all these unspoken topics and I believe it will create a difference in our society.”

Also starring Chandini Tamilarasan, Varsha Bollamma, Priya Ashmitha and Rajendran, the shooting of Pettikadai has been wrapped and it is currently awaiting censor certification. The film is expected to be released later this year.
