What BMW Models Did U Spy Here?

Avid Carscoops reader Gal Leibovici recently stumbled upon a motherload of BMW prototypes testing in Utah, coming across at least three models wrapped in camouflage.

The most obvious model to identify from this line-up is the all-new BMW X5. Unveiled to the world not too long ago, it may initially seem a little weird for BMW to still be testing an X5 prototype bathed in black and white camouflage.

However, llook closely and you’ll notice a ‘Hybrid Test Vehicle’ sticker on the rear bumper. BMW has yet to reveal the new plug-in hybrid X5 but our sources inform us that it will arrive for the 2020 model year and feature a battery pack under the seats. Specifications remain a mystery but it will almost certainly be the most fuel-efficient X5 on offer – on paper, at least.

Additionally, Leibovici snapped some pictures of two other BMW vehicles under car covers. One of them appears to be the next-generation 3-Series while the second could very well be a prototype of the all-new 8-Series. However, it’s hard to be sure of either and if you think you know the identity of them, do let us know!

Whatever the case may be, the next 3-Series and new 8-Series are both particularly exciting vehicles. Take the 8-Series, for example.

When the BMW 8-Series goes on sale in November, customers will have two engines to choose from. The most exciting model will be the M850i xDrive, powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the 840d xDrive will be available with a 315 hp and 580 lb-ft twin-turbo 3.0-liter diesel.

Production of the vehicle recently commenced at BMW’s Dingolfing facility in Germany and it is being built alongside the 5-Series and 7-Series.

Hat tip to Gal Leibovici for the photos!
