A businessman allegedly opened fire in the air to scare his neighbour following a row over parking vehicles in Kempanna Layout in Hebbal on Sunday night.
Others in the neighbourhood came out on hearing the gun shot and informed the police.
The police arrested Sanjeev Saxsena, 42, a businessman, and Ravi Kumar, who had started to quarrel and had reportedly assaulted each other.
According to the police, Ravi Kumar and Sanjeev are neighbours. Ravi owns an MPV while Sanjeev owns two SUVs. As Sanjeev had no parking space for two vehicles in front of his house, he used to park one adjacent to Ravi’s house, which had led to verbal altercations between the two.
Around 10.40 p.m. on Sunday, Sanjeev returned home and parked his vehicle in front of Ravi’s house. When Ravi objected and told him to remove the vehicle, a scuffle broke out between the two.
Sanjeev alleged in his complaint that Ravi snatched his gold chain. In response, he went inside his house and brought his licenced revolver. He opened fire in the air to disperse the crowd that had gathered around them, he claimed.
The Hebbal police rushed to the spot and arrested Sanjeev under the Arms Act and Ravi for creating a ruckus and taking Sanjeev’s chain.
Sanjeev had migrated to Bengaluru 20 years ago from Uttar Pradesh. He had obtained a gun licence seven years ago for his personal safety.
“We are going to submit a report to the authorities concerned to cancel the licence of the revolver, which he had used unauthorisedly,” said DCP North Chetan Singh Rathod.
