Benni: CT City out to get one over Kaizer Chiefs

2018-07-24 09:29

Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says he wants to beat Kaizer Chiefs in this Saturday's Mpumalanga Cultural Experience Cup, after losing twice to Amakhosi in 2017/18.

The event which is taking place in that province is set to be hosted by Mpumalanga's MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation Thandi Shongwe.

National First Division sides Mbombela United and Spears Of The Nation will meet in the earlier kickoff which will serve as the curtain-raiser to the Chiefs and City encounter.

Nonetheless, McCarthy, who is in his second year in charge of the Citizens, says the club are honoured to play against the Glamour Boys though he does want some measure of revenge.

He told Kickoff: "We are privileged to be part of this special occasion. It's not every time a so-called 'small fish' gets to swim with the 'big fish' in the 'big sea', so it shows that we're doing something right down there in Cape Town.

"When the players go out they perform really well in order to receive the accolades and recognition. So now that we are getting invited to play against the mighty Kaizer Chiefs, and rubbing shoulders with them (in pre-season) it shows we have come a long way.

"We want to make the most of this because you don't get to play this kind of opposition when you're preparing for the season. So the bigger they come the better because it also gives us an idea of how far we are in terms of preparation, fitness levels and quality.

"We're excited to play Chiefs because last season we couldn't get that monkey off our back when they beat us home and away. So, we feel like we've got a bone to pick."
