Truck driver steals e-tailer’s goods, booked

GURUGRAM: The driver of a delivery truck of Amazon who had allegedly stolen at least 83 mobile phones, was booked for theft after the e-tailer filed a complaint with police.
According to police, Saryu Yadav, a resident of Giridih in Jharkhand, was carrying merchandise from the Tauru-based warehouse of Amazon to Hyderabad.

“When the truck reached Hyderabad, 83 mobile packets were found to be missing,” said police, adding that on checking the GPS location of the truck, it was found that it had made a stop at Jamalpur village which is a few kilometres away from the Tauru warehouse.

At Jamalpur, the driver allegedly broke the seal of the truck and took out 83 mobile phones before sealing it again. A case was registered against the truck driver under section 407 (criminal breach of trust by carrier) of IPC based on a complaint by Ashwin, a company official and resident of Rajendra Park.

This is not the first time that an Amazon truck has been robbed. On June 3, four robbers targeted an Amazon truck on the Delhi-Jaipur highway and fled with its merchandise. On April 7, a mini truck carrying Amazon merchandise was robbed in Bilaspur.

In October 2017 police arrested four drivers with a city-based transport company for robbing a truck ferrying a consignment of Amazon goods and sharing the loot.

On May 2018, the crime branch of Gurugram police arrested six members of a gang which specialised in robbing trucks carrying Amazon goods. The e-commerce giant has warehouses in Tauru, 40 kms from Gurugram that feed the crucial NCR market, and some northern states. The gang would target trucks coming out of its Tauru warehouse. One of its members was found to be the son of a police inspector.
