Vadodara: Three persons accused of murdering a rickshaw driver were almost lynched by a mob in Tandalja on Tuesday.
The J P Road police team was caught unaware and had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to fend off the mob and save the three accused.

Detection of crime branch (DCB) had arrested the three on Monday night and handed them over to J P Road police for investigation. The trio had earlier fled to Maharashtra but crime branch sleuths tracked them down in Navapur. Those arrested are Farooq Sheikh (50), his son Farhan (21) and brother Munaf Sheikh (46), all residents of Tandalja.

On Tuesday, J P Road police had taken them to the murder spot to reconstruct the crime. A group of locals gathered at the spot and suddenly attacked the trio. They managed to assault the accused before the cops intervened and whisked them away. A video of the incident went viral on social media. The trio was later produced in a local court which remanded them in police custody for two days.

Ilyas Memon, an rickshaw driver, was allegedly stabbed to death by Farhan near Amir Complex in Tandalja on Sunday evening. The murder was a fall-out of an argument between Memon and Farhan and Munaf over a parking issue. Farhan then got a knife from his shop and stabbed Memon while Munaf held him.

When Memon’s father tried to intervene, the accused attacked and injured him as well. Police later arrested Pervez Sheikh and Farhan’s mother, Fareeda Sheikh, who allegedly instigated her son to commit the murder. The prime accused own a chicken shop in Tandalja.
