DBO Fatorda outclass Raia SC, reach quarters

MARDOL: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda registered a thumping 6-2 win over Raia Sporting Club to move into the quarterfinals of 33rd Mardol Trophy played at Mardol grounds on Tuesday. Raia were leading 2-0 when the game was just in the 18th minute as Lloyd Cardozo and Stephen Alvares scored a goal each, but after that it was all DBO Fatorda show who scored as many as six goals to win the match by a whopping 6-2 margin and book their place in the quarterfinals. For the winners Cliff Barreto, John Colaco, Francis Andrade, Veldon Dsouza and Rahul Fernandes scored one goal each while Raia’s Shouky Cardoz was guilty of scoring an own goal.

Goa squad for sub junior football nationals

PANAJI: Following is the Goa squad that will leave for Rajasthan to participate in the West Zone Qualifying Round of the Sub Junior National Football championship for Boys 2018-19: Backdom Braganca, Mistle Cardozo, Velon Rebello, Siddhesh Mandage, Akhil Vaz, Rui Noronha, Rohan Gaonkar, Bindusar Chaudhary, Nathan Rodrigues, Clarence Fernandes, Slevin De Melo, Skyron Bernard, Aryan Salunke, Harshit Upadheya, Dwayne Pereira, Adriel Rodrigues, Ian Fernandes, Sahil Inamdar, Tukaram Gad and Glenwin Barros. Ajay Acharya wil be the coach, Joaquim Fernandes will be his assistant and Raju Banavlikar will be the manager. Goa is scheduled to play their first match against Gujarat on August 17 and against Rajasthan on August 21, states the press release issued by GFA.

Double delight for Damodar College

TALEIGAO: The men’s and women’s team of Shree Damodar College, Margao came triumphant in their respective categories at the Inter Collegiate Badminton Championship, organised by Goa University at SAG, Indoor Stadium, Campal. In the men’s final, they defeated Don Bosco College, Panaji 3-0 while in the women’s final beat VM Salgaoncar College of Law, Miramar 2-0. Tejan Fallary, Yash Kunkalienkar, Pranav Bhandarkar, Kiefer Jacques, Sahil Kuttan and Shubham Salunke were the members of men’s winning team while the women’s winning team comprise of Emilia Silveira, Rachel Raposo, Tanisha Karshetty and Nikita Vernekar.

CT Naik HSS clinch double badminton crown

CURCHOREM: The boys and girls team of Smt CT Naik HSS, Curchorem won titles in their respective categories at the Zone IV Higher Secondary School Badminton Championship, organised by DSYA, at Sports Complex Borimol, Quepem. In their respective finals, boys team defeated Damodar HSS, Guddi-Paroda 2-0 while the girls team got the better of Guardian Angel HSS, Curchorem 2-1. The boys of Government HSS, Sanguem bagged the 3rd place defeating SS Angle HSS, Mashen-Loliem 2-1.

Goan players shine at U-7 chess nationals

PANAJI: The Goan team made their mark winning three prizes at the 32nd National Under-7 Chess Championship 2018 at Tumkur, Karnataka. Ethan Vaz won the 13th place in the Open category, Jennica Sequeira won 19th place in the Girls category and Diya Sawal claimed 3rd place in the U-5 Girls category with 4 points.
