VARANASI: Police arrested a man from Anand Nagar colony on Monday for his alleged involvement in trafficking Nepali women.
The man was booked under sections 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 506 (criminal intimidation), 370 (buying or disposing of any person as a slave), 342 (wrongful confinement) of IPC and 5&6 of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
According to reports, the police raided the place following a tip-off and recovered pregnancy kits, condoms, ladies slippers, ladies purses and ladies clothes from his house.
Police inspector Vijay Bahadur Singh said that during investigation it came to the light that he was involved in trafficking Nepalese girls and women and was forcing them into flesh trade in his house. However, no Nepalese woman was found in the house during the raid. The matter is being investigated, he said.
The matter came to the light when a trafficked Nepali woman managed to free herself and returned home from Varanasi and contacted the Nepalese authorities.
ADG Varanasi zone PV Ramashastri said that the woman disclosed that she was brought here for a job. But, after coming to Varanasi, she felt something wrong and said that several other Nepalese women were kept in confinement at different places. On her complaint an FIR was lodged and a person was arrested. Further investigation is on.
