PATNA: Amid protests in state assembly as well as in Parliament over alleged rape of at least 29 minor girls at the government children home in
Muzaffarpur, Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said the Centre was ready for a CBI inquiry into the case if the state government recommended for that.
“Demands for a CBI inquiry into Muzaffarpur children home case has been made by a few members of the House. If state government recommends, the Centre will consider it,” Rajnath said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The CBI inquiry was demanded by
Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav on Monday and RJD’s Banka MP Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav on Tuesday. Pappu’s wife and Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan also raised the issue and demanded a CBI inquiry into the case along with protection of the rescued girls.
“Proper security should be ensured to the girls rescued from the children home till the investigation is completed in the case,” Ranjeet said.
Meanwhile, opposition RJD would organize a ‘NDA Bhagao, Beti Bachao cycle march’ to expose the Nitish Kumar government failures in Bihar. “Women in
Bihar are not safe. Incidents of sexual assault on women and minor girls are being reported frequently from different parts of the state. A minor girl, along with her mother, was raped in front of her father in Gaya last month. The state government is not at all concerned about women’s safety. Our party will launch ‘NDA Bhagao, Beti Bachao cycle march’ from Gaya to
Patna to expose the NDA government’s failures,” leader of opposition in Bihar assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav told reporters on Tuesday.
Speaking on the Muzaffarpur children home issue, Tejashwi said: “Digging operation inside the children home on Tuesday was carried out only upon court’s order. Otherwise, the state government is trying to save senior officials and leaders involved in the case. We want a CBI inquiry monitored by the high court.”
