Fearing divorce, husband jumps in front of train, pulls wife too

KOLKATA. The passengers at Titagrah station were in for a rude shock on Monday when a couple suddenly jumped in front of a moving train in what was initially misconstrued as a suicide pact.
However, it was later found that the husband Moinuddin forced his wife Afsana to jump along with him after he received a divorce notice from her lawyer.

After Afsana's first marriage failed, she got romantically involved with Moinuddin and married him in 2016. The couple were living together in their Khardah residence along with two kids (one from Afsana's previous marriage).

But all was not well in their family. Moinuddin’s liquor addiction created trouble in their happy paradise.

He would often beat up Afsana after getting drunk. This forced her to leave their Khardah home and settle in Titagarh. But Moinuddin wanted her back in his life and started pursuing her daily.

Unable to take it anymore, Afsana lodged a police complaint against her husband. However, it did not deter Moinuddin. He started stalking her daily on train. One day, he asked her to come back. When she refused, he beat her up on the road.

Having had enough, Afsana decided to take divorce and went to a lawyer. Moinuddin lost his temper again on receiving divorce notice from her.

According to the eyewitnesses and the railway staff, on Monday morning at 10 am, Moinuddin chased Afsana at Titagarh station and held her hand before jumping in front of the Naihati local train as it was entering the platform.

Both received grievous injuries in the act. While Moinuddin lost his legs, Afsana leg was broken. They are now recuperating at RG Kar Hospital.
