Coimbatore: On the eve of the
World Embryologist Day, fertility experts say that almost 10% to 12% of couples find themselves unable to conceive naturally.
However, awareness regarding fertility treatment and the social stigma related to it lead to hardly 1% of them opting for treatment. Doctors say that with assisted reproductive technology progressing rapidly in the last four decades, success rates are much higher.
Speaking on the occasion, fertility consultant at Nova IVI Fertility Dr Latha, said assisted reproductive technology has grown to the point of offering individualized treatment for every couple. “There is now a growing need for personalized embryo transfer and individualized ovarian stimulation to optimize treatment,” she said.
Doctors said with more couples opting for treatment, cost of the treatment and medication have reduced over the last two decades. “Problems related to the risk of multiple pregnancies and ovarian hyper stimulation are being managed,” said Latha.
July 25 is observed as the World Embryologist Day as it is the birthday of Louise Brown, the first human born from an in vitro fertilization programme.
