Flaying the central government for its alleged indifference towards Andhra Pradesh, Left party activists staged a raasta roko near Tiruchanur, on the outskirts of Tirupati, here early on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, even as Left parties called for a State-wide agitation, CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna said the remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the no-confidence debate in the Lok Sabha, reeked of arrogance.
The prime minister attempted to cover up the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) failure in keeping promises made to the State during the bifurcation, particularly the one on special category status, alleged Mr. Ramakrishna.
‘BJP’s fortunes
will change soon’
“The BJP's indifference has resulted in injustice to the State and people have lost trust in the institution of Parliament, as promises made there, have not been fulfilled,” said Mr. Ramakrishna.
“The BJP’s high-handed approach stems from their majority that will soon change in the upcoming election,” he added.
Mr. Ramakrishna said the resentment of people of Andhra Pradesh would reflect in the days to come.
He also said the inability of government to resolve prevailing issues would result in more protests across the State including the human chain planned for July 25.
Left party activists questioned the timing of protests by Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which ‘remained silent for the past four years and had woken up a year before the election’.
