The collaboration will allow Kyushu Railway to sell package tours through Alibaba. Visitors will get to ride tourist trains, enjoy local food and culture and bathe in hot springs.
Kyushu Railway will also introduce a popular Chinese electronic payment system called Alipay. It’s used by more than 600 million people in the country.
Over 1.8 million Chinese tourists visited Kyushu in the last fiscal year through March.
Nearly 90 percent of them came to Japan on cruise ships. And Kyushu Railway officials hope to get more of them using its trains instead.
Alibaba Group runs a travel website called Fliggy for Chinese tourists. Some 10 million people use it every day.
