Responding to the ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ campaign, Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Subhash Barala on Tuesday posted on Twitter a video of himself jumping in a canal in his Tohana constituency in Fatehabad district to promote swimming as a healthy way of exercise.

Barala tagged the video to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and state chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar with the tagline of ‘Hum fit to India fit’.

The ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ campaign was initially started by Union sports minister Rajyavardhan Rathore.

Barala posted a video of 35 seconds which was shot from two different angles on his official social media Twitter handle. Till Tuesday evening, the video was watched by more than 200 people, with seven comments, 17 re-tweets and more than 80 likes.

In a message, Barala wrote, “Swasth sharir pavitra vichar deta hai, aur pavitra vichar sudridh desh ka nirman karta hai (A healthy body inspires noble ideas and noble ideas help in building a strong nation).”

The Prime Minister had also released a video of his yoga exercises just before the Yoga Day celebrations, after Indian cricketer Virat Kohli threw him the fitness challenge. The PM had posted the video on his Twitter account under the same tagline ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’.

The initiative is being seen as an image-building exercise by Barala, whose son Vikas Barala was booked in a high-profile stalking case in Chandigarh involving Varnika Kundu, the daughter of Haryana IAS officer VS Kundu.

However, the state BJP president could not be contacted for his comments. Responding to a phone call, his personal assistant said Barala is busy in a meeting.
