With the Vamsadhara continuing to receive heavy flows from the catchment areas in Odisha, the irrigation officials on Sunday released 43,091 cusecs from the Gotta barrage in Srikakulam district.
The district administration is anticipating more inflows into the river in the next couple of days following heavy rains in Odisha and parts of Srikakulam district. The district had received 313.4 mm rainfall in June and July (till date), which was more than the normal of 269.3 mm usually experienced in these months. Reviewing the situation, Collector K. Dhananjaya Reddy directed the revenue officials to keep an eye on the low-lying areas. He directed them to continue the search for the eighth person who had gone missing near the Umilada beach in Santabommali mandal.
The situation in Vizianagaram district, where the Nagavali had been in spate for the last three days, was under control. Collector M. Hari Jawaharlal directed the officials to assess the inflow into the Thotapalli reservoir as the situation in neighbouring State was alarming.
