Twin city residents in dire straight

Incessant heavy downpours for two days flooded most parts of twin city Bhubaneswar and Cuttack heaping miseries on the residents.

The tag of number one Smart City for Bhubaneswar sounded hollow as rainwater gushed into several houses in the areas including Acharya Vihar, Jayadev Vihar, Old Town and Damana in the absence of drainage systems.

Besides, vehicular communications came to a grinding halt as the roads in Rasulgarh, Nayapalli, Bhomikhal, Kalpana Squar and Jagamara were submerged in almost knee-deep water.

ODRAF personnel were engaged to rescue people stranded at various places in the capital city.

Besides, pumps were pressed into service in the most-affected areas of the twin city to evacuate water.
