1,075 kg ganja seized; 7 held in Malkangiri

In a major breakthrough, the Orkel police in Malkangiri district arrested five persons in connection with illegal transportation of ganja.

The police seized a TATA 1512 C container having registration No. HR-55 PO-771 and 1,000 kg ganja kept in 40 bags.

The market value of the seized ganja will be approximately Rs 50 lakh. The arrestees were identified as Pukhraj Gour (33) (driver), Narayan Das (22), Bikash Padhi (28), Jitendra Rout (38) and Bhaskar Chandra Padhi (27). They were smuggling ganja from Silleru area in Andhra Pradesh to Haryana. A case was registered. The IIC Orkel Police Station and his staff participated to detect case. Further investigation in the matter is on, said police sources.

In yet another case, following a tip-off, the Malkangiri police arrested two persons in connection with illegal transportation of ganja. A Mahindra Commander jeep and 75 kg of the contraband worth Rs 3.75 lakh were seized. The arrestees were identified as driver Sarat Chandra Hantal (25) of Makkapalli village and Bhagaban Khanda (28) of Biralaxmanpur village in Malkangiri district. A case was registered.
