Congress ministers and local party leaders who attended the
Sarv Mangal Chaturmas function, a gathering of Jain community, here on Saturday expressed hope that it would help in maintaining peace amongst the masses. The minister for industries and commerce, Sunder Sham Arora, addressing the gathering said the government is committed to the welfare of Jains as the community has contributed for the welfare of society at large.
Arora said Punjab has been a land of saints and ‘gurus’. He said the presence of Gachhadipati Shrimad Vijay Nityanand Surishwer and his followers in Punjab after a period of 22 years was a matter of pride for everyone. Civil supplies minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu said that this four-month long function in Ludhiana would help attain internal peace. They also welcomed the followers who had come from across the globe and assured them all possible help.
Prior to this function, a ‘Shobha Yatra’ was taken out from Clock Tower to Dharam Kamal Hall in which a large number of residents participated.
The function was also attended by MLAs Surinder Dawar, Kulbir Singh Zira and mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu.
