60-year-old AIADMK party cadre murdered, son under police suspicion

CHENNAI: A district representative of AIADMK of Kancheepuram was murdered on Saturday morning. Police suspect that the crime was committed by some men hired by his son following a property dispute.
M Moongilan alias Subbarayan (60) of Aathanjeri village near Padappai in Kancheepuram had more than 20 acres at Salamangalam, on Vandalur - Walajabad road. He was constructing commercial buildings at the site. On Saturday morning, after visiting the site, he was returning home on a two-wheeler when two persons on a motorcycle chased him and stabbed him at Salamangalam, a police official said. 

The victim fell on the road and the assailants escaped. Passersby dialled ambulance service and he was rushed to the government hospital, Chromepet, where he was declared ‘dead on arrival’. “An investigation revealed that Subbarayan had two sons Senthil Kumar (35) and Raj Kumar (32). Two years ago, at the request of Senthil Kumar, he apportioned the property among the brothers. But Senthil Kumar was upset that his brother had received a greater portion. In 2016, he attacked Raj Kumar with a knife and was arrested. He came out of prison two months ago and again picked an argument with his father,” said a police official. Suspecting Senthil Kumar’s hand in the murder, the police have detained both the brothers. Manimangalam police are investigating.
