Dallas police officer killed during funeral escort

Earl Jamie Givens, a 32-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department, was struck and killed while assisting in a funeral escort for a retired police officer on Saturday (July 21). "Sr.

Cpl.

Givens was stationary and his motorcycle had the emergency lights emulating.

The driver of a Kia Sportage struck him at a high rate of speed," said Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall during a press briefing.

Hall said the driver crashed the vehicle into a concrete divider and "remained at the scene where he was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated."
