Nagpur: After facing a severe water crisis during this summer, the management at Government Medical College (GMC) in
Yavatmal has developed a 10,000 square feet pond on the institute’s premises.
Built under the Jalyukta Shivar programme of state government, the hospital authorities hope to get some relief due to the pond during the dry season.
“The pond, which has been built near a 20-year-old well in the medical college campus will be helping in recharging the water table. The water stored here can be used for purposes other than drinking or clinical use at the hospital,” said dean
Dr Manish Shirgiriwar.
As Yavatmal town faced one of the worst water crisis this summer, it also hampered work, including surgeries and other procedures, at the GMC. The water shortage had also hit the dialysis operations at some of the private hospitals in the town. Dialysis needs a large amount of water during the procedure.
