HYDERABAD: The foundation stone for a 3km-long flyover spanning the Botanical Garden, Kothaguda and Kondapur junction, was laid by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) minster KT Rama Rao on Friday. A 470-metre underpass is also being constructed at Kothaguda junction to facilitate traffic flow from Allwyn Crossroads towards Gachibowli. The works are being taken up at a cost of ₹263.09 crore to ease traffic allong that stretch.
At the foundation ceremony, minster KT Rama Rao appealed to residents to bear with the temporary inconvenience being caused in view of the different development works being taken up in the Hyderabad city.

“The city is currently depending more on private transport facilities; the government’s main aim is to strengthen various public transport modes in the city,” said the minster.

MMTS phase II works are being expedited. The state government has sanctioned the requisite funds for taking up the works. Once all the metro routes became operational, about 14 lakh passengers are expected to travel via metro rail everyday,” said KTR.

Commenting on non-utilization of public transport facilities in Hyderabad, KTR said, “In Mumbai, nearly 70 per cent people use trains and buses for transportation, while 30 per cent relied on private transportation. On the contrary, in Hyderabad, 70 per cent travel in private vehicles and 30 per cent use public transportation facilities.”

Transport minister P Mahender Reddy, Hyderabad Mayor B Rammohan and GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony.
