GREATER NOIDA: A 39-year-old woman was found dead with a severe head injury at her home in Omicron 2 on Friday morning, with the door of house locked from outside and her two children missing. The family’s Maruti Esteem was gone too.
Manju Devi, who was from Mainpuri, stayed with her son Krishna Kant (18) and daughter Priyanka (19) in the rented accommodation. Her husband Pramod Kumar (45), a contractual electrician with the Greater Noida Authority, lived separately in the neighbourhood following repeated quarrels with his wife over his alleged drinking habits.

Pramod said he tried to contact his son Krishna Kant in morning but failed. “I went home to check and found the main door locked from outside. I looked through the window and found blood stains on the floor. I raised an alarm and called out to my children, but there was no response. I then informed police,” he said.

A team from Dadri police station reached the spot and broke the door open. Manju Devi was found lying on the floor, blood oozing from the head.

Muneesh Pratap Singh, the SHO of Dadri police station, said prima facie it appeared the woman had been hit with a blunt object. “She suffered severe injuries to the head and died on the spot. We have sent the body for postmortem and the reports are awaited,” he said.

Kumar told the police team their two children were missing since morning. The cops apparently found the boy’s mobile phone in one of the rooms. “We’ve lodged a case of murder against unknown persons. We are scanning call details from the mobile phone we found and sifting other evidence. We have launched a search,” Singh said.

Asked about ties the family members shared with each other, Ashok, a colleague of Pramod, told TOI: “I’m in shock, I had never imagined anything of this sort. Everyone in family was cordial with each other, at least in front of me. I am sure the larger part of the story is yet to be unearthed.”

Nishank Sharma, the circle officer of Dadri, said,“We checked CCTV footage of the area, but most of the cameras were not functional,” Sharma said.
