Chandigarh: Putting behind the transparency, the Education department has transferred the teachers in bulk at night. After decades, neither application of transfers were sought from teachers, nor declared any transfer policy. Sources told that no merit was prepared and transfers were based on political approaches. Other hand the Teachers Outfits across the State have strongly criticised the move. Talking to Daily Post, the Convener of the ‘Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha’Sukhwinder Singh Chahal said that a meeting has been fixed with CM on July 23 and teachers will oppose such move till end. Describing the move as beginning of black days, he said transfers should be cancelled.
Transfers are done after the declaration of transfer policy each and every year. The Punjab Cabinet had approved transfer policy and a letter had been issued by the Chief Minister in this regard. But the CM, while avoiding ongoing rebel like situation among the MLAs, ignored all previous rules made by the Government and allowed the transfers.
Rejected policy was a major part of Education reforms, which barred the transfers of teachers on political base. Earlier the applications were sought from the teachers in May and June month, who want to get transfer and special attention was given in the case of widow and physically victim teachers. But ignoring all the rules, the Education Minister has issued directions for transfers of teachers. 2475 teachers have been transferred in which 1001 are teachers, 353 lecturers, 13 Head-masters, 33 master cadre, 28 Principal and 28 vocational teachers. In the transfer orders it was written that action has been taken in public interest.
