9 held for robbery in Dahisar

MHB Colony police on Friday arrested nine people in connection with the theft of gold jewellery worth ₹42 lakh in Dahisar.

The police said that Lal Babu Sheikh (42) was on his way to his jewellery polishing unit in Dahisar after picking up a bag with 70 gold bangles worth ₹42 lakh from a client when he was accosted by four men near Dahisar station. The men assaulted him and fled with the bag. An FIR was filed against unidentified persons at MHB Colony police station.

An officer said, “We obtained CCTV footage of the accused and four accomplices. We circulated their images picked up all of them within 48 hours from the northern suburbs.” The accused have been identified as Pankaj Pandharkame (25), Sameer Rana (23), Toydul Mandal (19), Sachin Gaud (23), Nazim Ansari (20), Samtosh Rajbhar (24), Shankar Singh (22), and Santosh Tayde (36).

The accused revealed during interrogation that Shafiqulla Mandal (24), the domestic help at the house of Mr. Sheikh’s client, had tipped them off about the bangles. The police then arrested Mr. Mandal and recovered the loot.

The accused have been charged with dacoity under the IPC. They were produced in court on Saturday and remanded in police custody till July 24.
