JAIPUR: A 28-year-old man was allegedly lynched by a group of people on suspicion that he was smuggling cows in Rajasthan's Alwar district, a police official said today.

Akbar Khan, a resident of Kolgaon in Haryana, and another man were taking two cows to their village through a forest area near Lalawandi village in Alwar district last night, when a group of people severely thrashed him, Ramgarh police station SHO Subhash Sharma said. Khan's family runs a dairy farm.

Sharma said the people suspected Khan was smuggling cows. The allegation is yet to be verified, he added. The victim's body is kept at the Government Hospital in Alwar. The other man who had accompanied Khan managed to escape, Sharma added.

Khan was rushed to a government hospital in Ramgarh, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The body has been kept at a mortuary in Alwar, the SHO said.

A post-mortem is expected to be conducted after Khan's family members reach the hospital.

A case has been registered against unidentified people under IPC Section 302, the officer said. Sher Mohamad of Mev Panchayat in Alwar has alleged that the state government has
failed to stop lynching incidents, adding that it is responsible for such heinous crimes.

The Supreme Court had on 17th July termed the recent incidents of lynching as horrendous and acts of mobocracy, and recommended that Parliament enact a law to punish offenders in such cases.

The apex court had warned that incidents like these may rise across the country, as a Typhon-like monster, if not dealt with sternly now.
