Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 will dump fingerprint reader for iris scanner

These days, we are seeing phones with minimised bezels and a larger screen-to-body ratio. While that is restricted mostly to smartphones, it looks like we could see them in tablet devices as well. It’s not a secret that Samsung is one of the few active players in the Android tablet market and has been actively working to improve its devices. Overall, the tablet market has seen a decline in sales and so has Samsung with its Galaxy Tab devices. There are reports that the company is working on new Galaxy Tab S4. Rumours are that these new models will probably come without the physical home button and with minimised bezels.

Galaxy Tab S3, that was launched last year, came with a fingerprint scanner concealed in its hardware key. The renders of Galaxy Tab S4 have been shown sans a rear fingerprint sensor. That means the phone screen was the only place where Samsung would have put it.

Facial and iris recognition both

It has been confirmed that the Galaxy Tab S4 would come with facial and iris recognition both. Samsung had introduced Intelligent Scan in its Galaxy S9 and S9+ and this feature will be available in the Galaxy Tab 4 too, thus replacing the fingerprint reader. The Intelligent Scan’s main feature was its ability to be used in low-light. The tablet will switch between scanning both your iris and face, searching for the fastest way to unlock irrespective of the lighting in which you find yourself at that point.

It has not been confirmed yet as to when the Galaxy Tab 4 will arrive. It may arrive this month or the next one. On a related note, Samsung is all geared up to unveil its flagship tablet Galaxy Note 9, which will be launched at an event in New York on August 9.
