‘URJA to provide justice to victim women’

Director-General of Police (DGP) Rsihi Shukla said that the objective behind introducing Urgent Relief and Just Action (URJA) desk is to provide justice to victim women by taking prompt action.

The DGP was addressing a programme organized in the Jehangirabad police station premises, after inaugurating the Urja Helpdesk on Friday.

URJA desk would be supported and provided guidance by Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He further said that the purpose of establishing an energy desk is to help according to the expectations of the victim women at the police stations and police department will provide support in establishing URJA desk by providing resources and officers and hope that work with energy by police would far reaching results and have positive impact.

In the first year the data from 180 police stations in 12 districts of URJA desk would be collected which would help in making policies to curb crimes against women and save women victims.

Addl DG Mukesh Jain said that J-PAL is a global research institute where 161 professors are doing research in areas like Agriculture, Swaraj, Education and Governance.

J-moment is doing research work in many countries of the world including Europe, Asia, Afric Oxford University Professor Akshay Mangla said that through the medium of URJA women will get help regarding problems and crimes against women and about 50 percent of the population which comprises of women will get develop a sense of security. In the two-day training programme DSP and SHO of 12 districts were trained at PTRI.

On this occasion, Special DG KN Tiwari, ADG  Anuradha Shankar,  Aruna Mohanrao, Pragya Richa Shrivastav, Adarsh Kataria, Anvicha Mangalam, Pawan Jain, SW Naqvi, Vipin Maheshwari, DC Sagar, other senior Police Officers, SP of 12 districts and  Prof Gabriel Crook, Bhopal IG Jaideep Prasad and DIG Dharmendra Choudhary were present.
