Principal Secretary conducts surprise inspection of restoration work

The government is mulling over creation of a mobile app to induce transparency into the works taken up by various wings of Engineering Department.

Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Arvind Kumar revealed this at a special review meeting about road repairs and restoration works at Charminar zonal office. He conducted a surprise inspection of the road restoration works at Rajendranagar circle before the meeting.

The app, due for introduction next week, will support uploading of the photographs of the ongoing works, through which the senior officials may know the exact status of works. Mr. Arvind Kumar also instructed the recently recruited Assistant Engineers to visit the work sites in the wards allotted to them, and coordinate for monitoring of the road restoration works. The senior engineering officials must conduct meetings ward-wise in the coming two days, and see that the restoration is completed soon, he said.

He asked the officials to keep citizens informed about the works through social media such as Twitter. Commissioner, GHMC, B. Janardhan Reddy, asked the engineers to display boards with all relevant information including starting and completion dates and estimated cost. The road restoration works during monsoons are being taken up by deploying 384 special teams to identify and fill up the potholes as and when detected. The measures are being taken up in view of recent Supreme Court orders, Mr. Reddy said.

Chief Engineers Mohammed Ziauddin, Mohan Naik, and zonal commissioner Ravi Kiran also attended the meeting.
