The police on Friday took a 14-year-old boy into custody in KVB Puram mandal in the district on charges of alleged attempt to rape a 6-year-old girl in the neighbourhood.
According to the police, the boy on Thursday evening found the girl alone at home. He took advantage of the absence of her parents and reportedly tried to sexually assault her. Hearing her shrieks, her mother rushed home and the boy fled the scene.
The parents lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday night.
The police took the boy into custody and registered a case. The girl was sent to Srikalahasti hospital for medical examination. Further investigation is on.
