Kolkata, Countering BJPs target to win 21 Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal, All India Trinamool Congress supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today called upon her party workers to connect with the grassroots and ensure 100 per cent win (all 42 seats) in 2019 Parliament election.
Addressing a massive Shahid Diwas rally at Esplanade, to mark the killing of 13 people in police firing during a siege of Writers Building on this day in 1993, Ms Banerjee amply indicated her mission to win all the Parliament seats in the state as she allotted two chairs close to her in the podium to Binay Tamang and Anit Thapa, the face of Mamata Banerjee in Darjeeling.
The podium is said to be exclusively for all senior party leaders close to the AITC supremo, where even new entrants like journo-turned-politician former BJP MP Chandan Mitra and five Congress MLAs did not find place.
Ms Banerjee also introduced Mr Tamang and Mr Thapa to the vast audience, indicating her mission included Darjeeling among the 42 seats.
In 2014 Lok Sabha poll BJP won two seats in West Bengal – Asansol from where Babul Supriyo was the candidate and Darjeeling, which it won with the support of now split Gorkha Mukti Morcha (GJM),from where SS Ahluwalia is the MP.
Recently BJP chief Amit Shah told party’s Bengal cadres to ensure at least 50 per cent win, which meant 21 seats in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Ms Banerjee said the TMC and Bengal will show the fellowmen in country the way to Parliament in 2019 where the BJP will be reduced to minority. She predicted that the saffron party would not win beyond 100 seats. She also explained how and where the BJP was facing erosion in vote bank.
She said the TMC would convene a rally on January 19, 2019 at Brigade Parade ground where all like mined party and leaders would be invited from across the country for unity of all opposition for a proposed Federal Front.
Ms Banerjee, in a veiled attack, likened PM Narendra Modi to Mussolini.“Emperor bigger than Hitler, Mussolini has come to India now and is teaching hate,”she said.
“We don’t believe in BJP’s definition of Hinduism. They are giving a bad name to it. Our Hinduism is about Ma Kali, Durga, Bajrang Bali, Ganapati,” said Ms Banerjee
