MLA explores easier boat commuter options

The MLA directed CPPR to conduct further studies and submit the report to the officers concerned.

KOCHI: Thrikkakara MLA P T Thomas took a boat ride to Chittethukara boat jetty on Friday to explore the possibilities of shifting the location of the boat jetty for easing the journey of passengers reaching on the boat from Vytilla to Kakkanad.

Thomas travelled on the boat after a recent study by the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), a Kochi-based research agency, came up with a study to promote water transport system connecting the Vytilla Mobility Hub and Kakkanad. The MLA directed CPPR to conduct further studies and submit the report to the officers concerned.

“The study will explore the possibilities of shifting the existing boat jetty from the eastern side of the Chittethukara bridge to its western side, adjacent to the Inland Waterways Authority of India’s dockyard. The relocation will enable the ferry commuters in the area to get bus connectivity from the nearby bus stop on the Seaport-Airport Road,” noted a CPPR statement.

Apart from the MLA, Ernakulam Regional Transport officer Jojy P Jose, Chittethukara Municipal councilors T M Ali and K P Shivan, CPPR chairman D Dhanuraj, EDRAAC president Rangadasa Prabhu, RACO district general secretary Eloor Gopinath, and the Inland Water Transport Authority were part of the location visit.
