Mike Dawson of New Zealand who bagged first prize in the Slalom race on Friday repeated his performance on Saturday when he won the first prize in Boater Cross professional men’s finals on the fourth day of the Malabar River Festival and Malabar World Kayak Championship at Pulikkayam, near Kodencheri, here.
Dane Jackson from the United States and Gerd Serasolses from Spain bagged the second and third prizes respectively while Kalob Grady from Canada finished fourth.
Women’s final
Martina Wegman of the Netherlands bagged the first prize in the professional women’s finals while Molly Agar from England and Nouria Newman from France bagged the second and third prizes respectively.
Sivaneshan from Singapore bagged the first prize in Boater Cross intermediate men’s finals while Indian contestants Joy Malhotra and Yadu Nandan bagged the second and third prizes respectively in the event.
In the women’s category, Sania Pingle, Sikha, and Ahana bagged the first, second, and third prizes respectively in the event.
Around 50 paddlers took part in the Boater Cross events on Saturday.
Fun race
The championship concludes on Sunday.
The Down River Extreme Race that determines the Rapid Raja and Rapid Rani, the two overall champions of the event, will be held at Arippara on the Iruvazhinji river on Sunday morning.
A fun race in which all contestants in the event will take part will be held in the afternoon at the same venue.
The valedictory function will be held at 5 p.m. near the Elanthukadavu bridge, near Pulloorampara.
Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran will give away prizes on the occasion.
