Going through Black Lightning withdrawal pains since the Season 1 finale back in April? Sounds like you might need some more Painkiller!

Showrunner Salim Akil announced in the Black Lightning Comic-Con panel that Jordan Calloway, who plays Painkiller, aka Khalil, has officially been upped to series regular for Season 2, meaning that we'll get to see a lot more of him and his villainous ways next season. When all is said and done though, is Khalil really a villain or is he just a kid who was led down a dark path? That's something Akil hopes to explore with his character in Season 2.

"I don't really think Khalil is a bad guy," Akil told TV Guide, adding that a redemption arc wasn't totally out of the question for him. "I think he's reacting to and trying to figure out who he is now that he has these legs and has these powers. He's sort of like Jennifer (China Anne McClain) in a way. They're just all trying to figure out, what do I do with these things?"

Speaking of Jennifer, there's definitely more juicy storylines to dig into where those two characters are concerned. Their love story barely got off the ground before it got tangled up in Tobias Whale's (Marvin Jones III) vendetta against Black Lightning (Cress Williams).

There's still a long way to go before they can get back to romance, but at least we know for sure it's not out of the question.

"We kinda want to maintain the relationship but we really have to figure out how," Akil said. "Considering that he almost killed her father. So that's going to be a challenge... You know, how do we get them back on that roof talking?

Black Lightning returns Thursday, Oct. 9 at 9/8c on The CW.
