Nagpur: The tribal population from Nimda village of Sironcha sub-division in south Gadchiroli constructed a memorial for a fellow villager who had been axed to death recently by Maoists for trying to enrol himself in the police department.
The victim, Laxmiswami Sakti, 27, was lured out of his residence by Maoists who approached the former in plain clothes. The rebels, posing as police representatives, told Sakti that personnel from Gadchiroli police department wanted to meet him. Believing them, Sakti walked out of his home with a hope to meet the cops.

The Maoists took Sakti to a place outside the village before axing him to death. He was repeatedly confronted by the rebels for his attempts to join the police department.

After constructing the memorial, the villagers also vowed not to extend any help or assistance to Maoists.
