BAREILLY: Hours before Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath landed at Trishul Airbase of
Indian Air Force here in
Bareilly, sleuths of UP anti-terrorist squad (ATS) from Noida arrived here and took in custody a suspect from Talpura locality in Baheri tehsil.
ATS inspector-general Aseem Arun issued a statement in the evening, “Following information received from a sister agency, the man was interrogated for two hours in Bareilly. Since we didn’t find any evidence against him in any crime, he was allowed to go.”
Since the PM and CM had to change aircraft at the IAF base here to reach
Shahjahanpur for addressing a farmers’ rally, the entire police and district administration were on their toes regarding security arrangements. The CM’s chopper landed at 10 am at Trishul airbase while PM arrived in an IAF Boeing at 11:20 am. They took an IAF chopper to reach the rally site.
Inspector Rajveer Singh, Baheri police station house officer, said that the ATS team had arrived early morning around 8 am and took the man to Bareilly where he was interrogated for two hours.
“There was an officer of Delhi Police along with the UP ATS team. They would have some information about him, which is why ATS interrogated him. They didn’t share any information with us that they collected from him,” Singh said.
Local police said that the suspect has been in the rice trading business and they had no previous complaint against him.
Superintendent of police (rural areas) Satish Kumar said, “It is yet to be established whether the suspect has any link or connection with any terrorist group. Until the ATS shares any intelligence inputs with us, we cannot comment on the man. ATS interrogated him for a couple of hours and let him go after they were satisfied with his replies.”
