UP Congress to hold state wide dharna against BJP govts

The Uttar Pradesh Congress has planned to stage dharnas across the state to draw public attention towards the failure of the BJP governments at the Centre and UP in controlling law and order or addressing problems faced by farmers and the common men.

In Lucknow, state Congress chief Raj Babbar would lead party workers and leaders at a dharna at GPO Park. Interestingly, the demonstration by the Congress has been planned on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing a `Kisan Rally’ in Shahjahanpur to highlight achievements of the Union and state governments. 

On its part, the Congress too has plans to hold a massive Kisan Rally in the state sometime next month to expose how the BJP cheated farmers in the name of waiving loans, providing higher Minimum Support Price (MSP) etc. 

Giving details on Friday evening, UPCC spokesman Onkar Singh said that ‘jungle raaj’ was prevailing under the Yogi government in UP and not just series of murders, rape and other sensational crimes, the killing of an inmate inside Baghpat jail has exposed claims of the government in curbing crimes. 

Singh said that instead of focusiing on law and order, the UP Police was busy patting their backs through orchestrated encounters. He said that it was surprising that such killings have the CM’s support, even as National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to the state government seeking reply on encounters.  

Hitting out at the PM’s proposed Shahjahanpur rally on Saturday, Singh said that the BJP cheated farmers and were only misguiding them in the name of raising MSP. 

“Whether the farmers of Bundelkhand, west and east UP, the way their loans were waived, is an insult to them and their hard work. Several farmers committed suicide but the insensitive government have showed least concern over their plight,” he said. 

On the proposed state-wife dharna, the Congress spokesman said, “On Saturday, Congress leaders led by Raj Babbar would hold a peaceful dharna at GPO Park in Hazratganj and corner the BJP governments over a number of glaring issues. Beside Lucknow, all district and city Congress units would organise similar dharnas at respective districts.”

“Next month, the state Congress was planning a ‘Kisan bachao, Desh bachao’ rally to expose the Modi government as no concrete development has been carried out in any field in the last four years,” he informed.
