Students told to pay Rs 2 lakh to rape victim for forging attendance

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has imposed costs of `2 lakh on G S College at Kangeyam and its students for forging attendance and directed them to pay the sum to the parents of the 11-year-old rape victim of Ayanavaram here.

Justice S Vaidyanathan gave the directive while passing orders on a writ petition from the students, numbering 58, seeking a direction to the university to allow them to redo the exam of first, third and fourth semesters in the Bachelor of Physical Education course.

There is no reason as to why the college is trying to fool everyone and play fraud. So, the college is directed to pay the costs of `1.50 lakh to the parents of the recent rape victim to enable them to use the amount for treatment and welfare of their victim daughter. The students should also pay `50,000 jointly to the parents, the judge said.

The TN Physical Education and Sports University, under which the college is functioning, found that the attendance details submitted by the college were forged. It did not allow the students to write their semester exams. The university held that both the college management and the students were hand in glove and forged the attendance.

The students approached the High Court for a directive to the university to permit them to redo their respective semesters. When the matter came up on Friday, the judge imposed the costs on the college and the students.
