Transporters’ begin nationwide indefinite strike

The strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) from Friday is to press for demands including removal of daily pricing mechanism for diesel, toll collection and reduction in insurance premium.

They also demanded that the Union government implement a ‘toll barrier-free India’ to make transportation hassle-free on highway.

Overnight Southwest monsoon rains brought about by tropical storm Ampil inundated low-lying areas in Metropolitan Manila and nearby provinces on Friday. Heavy rains continue to flood Manila forcing authorities to suspend classes for the third straight day.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first in the second test against South Africa at Sinhalese Sports Club ground beginning Friday.

Sri Lanka made one change from the side that won the first test in Galle by 278 runs, bringing in off-spinner Akila Dananjaya in place of left-arm wrist spinner Lakshan Sandakan.

South Africa made two changes, dropping Vernon Philander and Tabraiz Shamzi and replacing them with Lungi Ngidi and Theunis de Bruyn.
