CHENNAI: A complaint has been lodged with the city Police Commissioner against Blue Cross for failing to attend to an injured dog at Porur. Also, an activist claimed that he was asked to sign the ambulance card stating that Blue Cross had attended to the injured dog.
Around 7.30 am on July 12, Azhagar Senthil, a resident of Porur, noticed that a dog had fallen into the stormwater drain dug by the Corporation staff. “I immediately contacted the Blue Cross but did not get any response. So, an autorickshaw driver and I rescued the dog and rushed it to the government veterinary hospital in Madanandapuram and later the dog was moved to the Corporation shelter where it died a few hours later,” Azhagar said in his complaint.
“Subsequently, the Blue Cross staff called and insisted that I sign the ambulance card which stated that the Blue Cross had rescued the dog, which I refused,” he added. A complaint was lodged with the SRMC police and since no action was taken, Azhagar lodged the complaint with the Police Commissioner.
When contacted, Blue Cross general manager Dawn Williams said he was unaware of the incident. “We receive around 250 complaints every day and we are the only NGO that provides ambulance facilities to injured animals. Hence, if an injured cattle is blocking the road and the ambulance has gone to attend it, it generally takes four to five hours for them to return. In this case, I believe the Blue Cross did not deny,” he added.
