GURUGRAM: A city
court on Thursday sentenced two persons to five years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on them for
snatching a
mobile phone last year. The duo were arrested by an anti-snatching team of the Gurugram police in December 2017.
Additional sessions judge
Krishan Kant on Thursday awarded the jail term to Deepak (23) and Ashok (22), who are from Jhajjar.
On December 7, 2017, they had snatched two mobile phones and cash from a person on Sohna Road. Later, they were arrested by the anti-snatching team of Gurugram police on December 19, 2007. They were also booked under section 379-A (snatching) and 34 (common intention) of IPC. During the interrogation, it was found that Deepak was working with a private company as a supervisor till June 2017, but he later quit his job and started committing petty crimes like snatching, along with his friend Ashok. They were arrested later, and the snatched phone was recovered from them.
On the basis of police investigation and statements of the witness, the court awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment to them, besides a penalty of Rs 25,000. The court observed that the prosecution had successfully proved with reliable evidence that both the accused shared a common intention to commit thefts and forcibly grabbed mobile phones from victims’ possession.
This is the fourth case, in which a Gurugram court has awarded five-year imprisonment for snatching a mobile phone. Earlier, three people were awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment in two different orders by the same court in June first week.
