Police to look into complaint

The Attingal police have registered a case in connection with the alleged death threats received by a newly married inter-faith couple.

The issue came to light after a Christian youth from Kottiyode in Attingal married a Muslim woman from Valappattanam in Kannur at a temple in Vamanapuram recently. They were allegedly threatened by the woman’s relatives and activists of the Social Democratic Party of India. The Attingal police intervened after a video, in which the couple sought help, went viral on social media on Thursday. The couple met the officers at the Attingal police station, following which the man was produced at the Attingal court in connection with a missing complaint filed by his family. His spouse was taken to a court in Kannur since her family had submitted a similar complaint there. They are being escorted by the police.

The CPI(M) has offered protection to the couple. They were provided a reception at the party Attingal area committee office.
