Pune outplays Junnar in opener

Pune: All-round performance from Ganesh Kamble helped Vegwan Pune to defeat Shivneri Junnar 36-27 in the first match of the fourth edition of the Pune League Kabaddi at Balewadi Sports Complex on Thursday. It was Ganesh Kamble’s 10 points, which kept the momentum in Pune’s favour. At half time, Pune was leading by 4 points with the scoreline reading 16-12. 

After resumption, Shivneri Junnar came out with an attacking approach but failed to score a point as Pune’s defence delivered a standout performance. Chetan Pardhe was the star in the defence for the Pune team scoring 8 points. For Junnar, Akshay Jadhav came out with a brave effort scoring 10 points but his efforts vent in vain, as Shivneri Junnar fell short by nine points in the end.

Earlier, Baladhyay Baramati started the tournament with a bang scoring a 43-26 win over Laybhari Pimpri  Chinchwad.
Leading from the front was Pranav Nakhate, who scored seven points while he got good support from Nilesh Kalber and Aadam Sheikh, who scored 4 and 3 points respectively.

Baramati team started collecting points right from the start and took a 21-11 lead at the end of half time. In the second half as well, the Baramati team continued their dominance to secure a win.

Maay Mulshi 30 (Babloo Giri 5, Avinash Phadke 2, Rohan Sawant 4) beat Sinhgad Haveli  22 (Pawan Garje 3, Nikhil Bhasmare 3, Rishikesh Nakhate 4).
Zhunzar Khed 29 (Pravin Mulik 9, Mayur Pawar 5, Saddam Somdar 3, Abhijeet Choudhary 3)  beat Chhawa Purnadhar 23 (Akshay Bodke 5, Ganesh Lokhande 5, Ganesh Aawale 5). 
Vegwan Pune 36 (Ganesh Kamble 10, Chetan Pardhe 8,) beat Shivneri Junnar 27 (Akshay Jadhav 10, Suraj Pachkawde 5, Prathmesh Nighate 5).
